Neck Lift in Ashburn, VA

ABOUT NECK LIFT SURGERY

Are you sick of wearing turtlenecks and scarves all the time to cover the loose flaps of skin on your neck? Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael J. Brown provides neck lift surgery with both open and closed techniques at his practice in Ashburn, VA to address the look of an aging neckline. This facial surgery reshapes and tightens the area on the underside of your chin and along the neck to remove the loose skin that creates a “turkey neck” or “double chin.” By surgically excising the loose skin and fat while using a tightening technique to result in a smoother, natural neckline, neck lift surgery at The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery can provide dramatic improvements to your profile. IDEAL CANDIDATES

Individuals contemplating neck lift treatment generally deal with visibly sagging and hanging skin on the neck. Hanging neck skin is often caused by ranging factors, including aging and significant weight loss. Whatever the reason may be, loose neck skin produces an older, unbecoming look, which in most cases can only be cosmetically fixed with skin excision and a tightening technique. If you are physically healthy and at a good weight, but you feel embarrassed by loose skin and wrinkles along the neck, a neck lift cosmetic surgery treatment may be a recommended answer. During your consultation, Dr. Brown will discuss the alternative techniques, including a less invasive closed technique, depending on your desired results.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

For neck lift surgery, IV sedation or general anesthesia is used. The incision point is placed just in front or behind your ears while another one might also be created beneath your chin. If isolated areas of fat exist, neck liposuction would be the first step in the surgical process. Next, any sagging, loose, or hanging skin will be carefully excised, and the underlying tissue and remaining skin will be pulled tight. An open technique typically involves an incision that begins in the hairline close to the sideburn area and extends in the posterior hair. A closed technique may only consist of an incision around the ear, depending on your initial amount of excess skin and wanted outcome. This method of skin tightening is conducted until the desired contour has been achieved. Even though sutures are placed at the incision area, scars should not be noticeable since they were placed beneath your chin. A nonsurgical fat reduction injection, such as Kybella, may be incorporated to complement the results. Also, other nonsurgical choices can help the skin’s texture and surface, such as a laser, peel, or IPL treatment, to produce a glowing, younger-looking appearance.

NECK LIFT USING IGUIDE

The iGuide neck lift is a technique to lift the loose skin under the chin. There is no incision. Instead, a suture support system is placed through a few needle sticks. Instead of cutting and moving the neck muscles, a suture is passed under the jawline. This uses one single suture. It can be used alone or along with a facelift, and it does require liposuction.

Recovery times following an iGuide neck lift are typically short. There is also less swelling, bruising, and risk of nerve and muscle damage. Generally, patients are able to return to work in a few days. In the meantime, a neckband is used for three days following the procedure in order to aid in healing, especially if liposuction was performed. No other downtime is needed, and patients can resume exercise in a week or two.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After a neck lift, there will probably be some mild swelling and discoloration from bruising, but these will dissipate after some healing time has passed. You should rest and try to avoid exercise or strenuous activity for a couple of weeks to assist in a safe recovery. While recovering, button tops or loose-fitting clothing is ideal. You should notice visible aesthetic differences almost immediately. In addition, it has been noted that the neck lift surgery can make one of the most stunning enhancements to an individual’s profile, turning back the hands of time on your appearance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does a neck lift cost?

Costs for your neck surgery will be reviewed in your consultation with Dr. Brown. As soon as he has developed your surgical plan, he will be able to estimate prices for the anesthesia, facility, and miscellaneous fees. To make your neck surgery easier to afford, The Loudoun Center for Plastic Surgery takes several payments methods, plus, we can tell you more about how to get low-interest financing.

What about nonsurgical options?

Neck lift surgery is the best option to eliminate excess skin, particularly if it droops or hangs. Although there are several nonsurgical skin tightening procedures that may give you mild improvements, neck lift surgery offers the most significant improvements to redefine and smooth your neckline. A new popular, minimally invasive treatment called Kybella targets fat in the submental area, which gives the appearance of a double chin; however, it doesn’t improve excess skin.

Will I have visible scars?

If they are required, incisions are strategically placed so the scars are difficult for others to see. Dr. Brown tries very hard during neck lift surgery to avoid visible scarring as much as possible. A team member will explain scar management instructions, which will encourage your incisions to heal flat and thin.

Can I combine a neck lift with other facial surgeries?

At your consultation, you can bring up that you are thinking about another surgery, like a facelift or chin augmentation, along with a neck lift. It’s normal for two or more face surgeries to be done together to get your best results. If you are concerned about an undefined jawline or weak chin, tell Dr. Brown so he can develop a plan that meets all your goals.

Should I get a neck lift or liposuction?

Based on your concerns and goals, you might want to get a neck lift with liposuction. A lift, plus lipo may be best if you are concerned about both loose skin and fat pockets in your neck. Additionally, a neck lift utilizing iGuide may be ideal if you are looking for a less invasive approach. Dr. Brown can help you choose which method should be included in your procedure plan in order to yield the best results.
